What Luke Shaw was spotted doing during England's dramatic comeback win over Slovakia

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has been England’s missing man during Euro 2024 so far.

It was back in February that we last saw Luke Shaw play football. The Manchester United defender has been battling with injuries ever since.

England boss Gareth Southgate gambled and took him to Euro 2024, but the left-back is yet to have a kick.

Shaw was on the bench for England’s last 16 win over Slovakia, an unused substitute. England instead preferred to utilise Bukayo Saka at left-back in the second half.

What Luke Shaw did during England’s win

Luke Shaw was seen joining in the celebrations as England mounted their last ditch comeback, secured through an injury-time goal from Jude Bellingham, and extra-time winner from Harry Kane.

One picture taken after Bellingham’s goal saw Shaw leaping on to the top of a huddle of his England teammates.

Joining in the celebrations, Shaw certainly showed no signs of being a player worried about an injury.

What Gareth Southgate has now said about Luke Shaw

England manager Gareth Southgate was asked about the Manchester United left-back, speaking in his post-game press conference.

He said he still would have viewed it as a gamble to select Shaw in the game with Slovakia.

“Yeah, I think that’s got a chance [to play in the next match]. I mean, we could have put him on, but he has done so little full team training that would been a huge risk.

“A bit more training and a little bit more evidence for us of the level he is at would be helpful.”

England’s next fixture will be against Switzerland, with the quarter-final to take place on Saturday.

Shaw’s Manchester United teammate Kobbie Mainoo is expected to start, with the 19-year-old impressing during the dramatic win over Slovakia.
