Ipswich make first move for 'rapid' £10m Premier League star that wants to join Leeds - journalist

Ipswich Town have made the first move to sign a player that is desperate to join Leeds United in the summer, with Leicester City also preparing a move to land the star.

Leeds are working to get players out of the door, with Archie Gray closing in on a move to Tottenham with The Whites needing to cash in on a big-name player to comply with Profit & Sustainability Rules.

Diego Llorente is close to a move to Real Betis, while Jamie Shackleton and Liam Cooper are now free agents after their contracts expired. It remains to be seen if there will be an announcement on the duo.

In terms of incoming, Leeds are yet to make any as they wait to see what cash they have to spend and what they can use. Of course, one player that is right at the top of the agenda is Tottenham’s Joe Rodon.

The situation surrounding Joe Rodon and a move to Leeds

Failure to gain promotion throws a move to Elland Road into doubt for 26-year-old Rodon. It comes having played 50 times for Leeds last season, but failing to get The Whites over line in the play-off final.

That defeat means Leeds are unable to spend big this summer, while Tottenham have triggered a 12-month extension in his contract. Daniel Levy’s side want a fee of £10m if they are to part with Rodon.

Rodon remains a top target for Leeds despite failing to get promoted, and Rodon is still very keen on rejoining Leeds. But there is other interest, with Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester all keen.

Ipswich Town now make first move for Leeds target Rodon

Football London reporter Alasdair Gold has taken to X to inform fans that Kieran McKenna’s side want to sign Rodon and have made contact with a verbal offer to sign the Wales defender in the coming weeks.

Gold also makes it clear that Leicester and Leeds are interested in signing Rodon, while there is nothing official or in writing from Portman Road. If Ipswich meet Tottenham’s asking price, it will be up to Rodon.

He said: “Understand Spurs have received a verbal offer for Joe Rodon from Ipswich. Nothing formal or submitted in writing yet. As I reported before, Leicester and Leeds are also after the Wales defender, who is currently abroad at a training camp ahead of the new season.

A player that could end up at Leeds in a player-plus-cash deal, with reports saying Gray could end up at Spurs for a lump sum of cash alongside either Rodon or Oliver Skipp, another player on the Leeds radar.

Monday could prove crucial in determining whether Leeds can spend money this summer and in turn, whether The Whites can spend what is required to bring “rapid” Rodon back to Elland Road soon.
