‘Ready to bring back’: Alan Nixon claims Sheffield Wednesday could make their sixth summer signing today

Danny Rohl has been on a roll with Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer signings in recent weeks.

Sheffield Wednesday confirmed their fifth signing of the summer yesterday, as Jamal Lowe joined on a free transfer after being released by Bournemouth.

The Owls have also welcomed Yan Valery, Max Lowe, Svante Ingelsson and Ben Hamer to the club.

Rohl was fully aware that he would have to make dramatic changes to his squad this summer and he certainly isn’t messing about in doing so.

Wednesday will still need numerous more arrivals to be in with a chance of a top half finish next season though, and it looks like they are already closing in on one of them.

Sheffield Wednesday set to re-sign 19-year-old

According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Owls are set to re-sign James Beadle and a deal could potentially be done today.

He wrote on his Patreon: “Sheffield Wednesday are ready to bring back keeper James Beadle from Brighton on Monday.

“Beadle is going to the Owls for a second loan spell and the chance to play every week in the Championship.

“The highly rated prospect is leaving the Seagulls despite other Brighton keepers being wanted by clubs this summer.

“Wednesday wanted Beadle to return and the young shot stopper also enjoyed his first spell at Hillsborough.

The departure ofCameron Dawson left Wednesday very light in between the sticks, while it was clear Hamer wasn’t brought in to be first choice.

The 2024/25 season could be huge for James Beadle’s future

Beadle clearly was Rohl’s main priority after picking up the second highest clean sheet percentage of any goalkeeper that played more than two games in the Championship last season (42.1%).

He was comfortably one of Wednesday’s best players last term and it will be hugely beneficial for both parties for him to continue his role at Hillsborough, rather than having to find someone good enough to replace him.

Another quality season in the Championship could earn the 19-year-old a place in Brighton’s senior squad or even a move to another top flight club, and his eventual exit from the Owls will be bittersweet for supporters.
