Liverpool fans react after seeing what Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold did at full-time after England vs Slovakia

Many Liverpool fans would have been keen for their star men to play a part for England in their latest Euro 2024 clash.

But Gareth Southgate opted to leave both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez on the bench for the entire meeting versus Slovakia.

More frustrating for the pair was that the game lasted 120 minutes, with the round of 16 tie having finished 1-1 in normal time.

Southgate did turn to his bench five times throughout the match, but ignored the Liverpool duo as England scraped a 2-1 win.

Jude Bellingham was the hero in 90 minutes with his very late equaliser, with Harry Kane then netting the winner early in extra-time.

England fans will be delighted with the result, but Liverpool fans are not happy at all with Southgate choosing not to play the two Anfield aces.

And it seems that the players themselves are not happy either, with Alexander-Arnold and Gomez keeping their full-time celebrations very low-key, especially compared to their compatriots.

One fan wrote: “If you watch it on the telly, you can see Trent and Gomez exchange a ‘side eye’ with each other.”

A second added: “They’re experiencing second-hand embarrassment, after watching their overpaid teammates fumble a lucky win against Slovakia and celebrating like they’ve won the cup.”

A third commented: “They came from being coached by Klopp: they know perfectly that Southgate is crap.”

Another user said: “If I were them, I’d go home, typical of an England manager to ignore Liverpool players, no matter what their quality.”

Others added: “Just let our boys come back home to us and stop the torture,” and “They just wanna go home.”

Another fan wrote: “Can’t believe they are both being ignored in this squad,” with another saying: “They look so tired of this country.”

Another user said: “Trent looks like he’s about to quit international football and just concentrate on domestic.”

Liverpool duo are right to be angry with Gareth Southgate

Gomez and Alexander-Arnold are right to be frustrated with the current situation, with the pair wasted on the bench.

The former represents a superb option for Southgate at left-back, having shone there this season for Liverpool.

That is a very troubled position for the Three Lions, and Gomez is capable of filling the gap effortlessly, with Jermaine Jenas having wanted to see the Anfield ace play there against Slovenia.

Alexander-Arnold meanwhile has been given time in midfield by the manager at Euro 2024 in the opening games, but has been largely ignored in more recent matches.

He is in a similar situation to several other England stars, who Gary Neville believes cannot afford to be mishandled by Southgate.
