Report: Newcastle now concerned their 'fearless' player might want to leave after what's happened this summer

Some at Newcastle United are now concerned that one player has had his head turned after being linked with a surprise move to a Premier League rival in the summer transfer window.

Newcastle fans probably could not quite believe some of the events which went on last week, with the Magpies working incredibly hard to bring funds in by selling a number of their players.

Newcastle were ready to leave Yankuba Minteh training with the youth team if he did not move on – with the winger now completing a move to Brighton. Meanwhile, Elliot Anderson is seemingly on his way to Nottingham Forest.

But it did appear that there was a chance of an even more shocking move, with Liverpool interested in Anthony Gordon following his outstanding campaign at St James’ Park.

Newcastle have Anthony Gordon fear after Liverpool talks

According to The Athletic, Liverpool made an enquiry for Gordon, and Newcastle responded by suggesting that a deal could be possible had Jarell Quansah got the green light to move in the opposite direction. However, the Reds were not willing to let the young centre-back go.

It appears that talks have ended, but it seems that some on Tyneside are now worried about how Gordon will respond to the links with Liverpool.

The Athletic reports that some at Newcastle are concerned that the 23-year-old has already had his head turned by the prospect of a return to Merseyside.

Clubs may want to test Magpies’ resolve amid concerns

It would be a surprise if Liverpool became the last team to register an interest in Gordon should it become clear that he would indeed be interested in leaving Newcastle in the coming weeks.

He is a ‘fearless’ winger who reached double figures for goals and assists in the Premier League last season – and Gordon is one of the only England players to have received some praise at Euro 2024.

If he is available, he could be an outstanding signing for any team in the Premier League. It had appeared that he was going to be one of the stars to really elevate Newcastle as they look to become a powerhouse of European football – but it could now be a very long summer for Howe’s men.
