£120m player wants to leave and come to England after Arsenal links - Fabrizio Romano

A forward who has often been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer now wants to leave his club and has set his sights on the Premier League.

Given the insufficiencies of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, Arsenal are thought to be on the search for a new striker this summer.

Jesus (four) and Nketiah (five) managed to score just nine goals combined in the Premier League last season – a total beaten by Luton Town’s Carlton Morris, who netted 11 times.

It would be a big risk for Arsenal to enter the new season without recruiting a better finisher, even if Kai Havertz is now a reassuring presence in that regard.

And although Jesus was once the star of Mikel Arteta’s project, it perhaps feels slightly unambitious to start the new season with the Brazilian.

Jesus is still an excellent player in his own right, one of the best pressing forwards in world football, but he isn’t the right profile to dovetail with Havertz – he’s no Niclas Fullkrug.

That being said, a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen seems very popular among Arsenal fans right now, and Fabrizio Romano has just shared an interesting update in that regard.

Arsenal target Victor Osimhen wants to leave Napoli for the Premier League

25-year-old Osimhen has often been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, having scored 17 goals in 32 appearances for Napoli last season.

The Nigerian striker is thought to be the go-to option for Edu to prove Arsenal’s ambition, a deal which would likely result in the club smashing their transfer record.

And to that end, Romano has now shared an update on X stating that Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli ‘soon’,

The journalist shared: “Victor Osimhen’s plan is still to leave Napoli this summer as movement is expected soon.

“After quiet June, Napoli expect proposals to arrive for Osimhen as he could be on the move; the release clause is around €120m.

“Preference for Premier League but story still open.”

And although Romano mentions Osimhen’s release clause value, recent reports have suggested that Arsenal could sign the striker cheaper.

Given the ‘difficulties’ Napoli are enduring finding a buyer for the striker, Arsenal could sign Osimhen for a cut-price of £85m.

Any deal would represent the bulk of Arteta’s summer business with wages considered too, but that discounted price would present much better value for Arsenal.

All that being said, one different Arsenal target excelled for Spain at Euro 2024 on Sunday.
