Report: Premier League club are fearing their £45m player has now had his head turned by Liverpool

Liverpool should be confident of bringing star quality to Anfield this season given their success last time out.

It may not have exactly been a dream farewell for Jurgen Klopp, even if he did lift the League Cup trophy in his final campaign.

More importantly, however, the boss guided Liverpool to third place in the Premier League table, thus securing a Champions League spot.

Reds fans have sorely missed watching their club participate in the elite competition, with the famous European nights now set to return to Anfield.

But to compete successfully in the Champions League and continue to thrive domestically, a big and talented squad is needed.

Newcastle have Anthony Gordon and Liverpool fear

Liverpool fall somewhat short in that regard, meaning new manager Arne Slot must work hard to bring new players in this summer.

One player that Anfield chiefs admire is Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, with the England international open to moving back to Merseyside.

The Athletic has now reported the view from the Magpies, who want to keep the player, but there are ‘lingering fears internally’ that Gordon’s head may have been turned.

Can Liverpool tempt Anthony Gordon to Anfield?

As mentioned, the Reds are back in the Champions League, a competition in which Gordon played last season.

The 23-year-old gained valuable experience against European heavyweights AC Milan, PSG and Borussia Dortmund.

But a decline in their league displays means Eddie Howe’s men have missed out on European competition altogether next season.

That may just be playing on Gordon’s mind, with the attacker surely keen to continue playing against the biggest clubs in Europe.

His appetite will have only grown following his inclusion in England’s Euro 2024 squad, even if he is playing a minor role.

Gordon has been handed just one minute by Gareth Southgate in the competition so far, having earned a place in the squad following his 12 goals and 11 assists for Newcastle last season.

The winger has only been at St James’ Park since January 2023, having joined the Magpies from Everton for £45million.
