Report: Liverpool have told Mohamed Salah deadline over when he must sign new contract

Liverpool manager Arne Slot will undoubtedly want to strengthen his squad in the summer transfer window.

The new man in the Anfield dugout needs new faces on Merseyside in order to successfully take over from Jurgen Klopp.

But keeping star players at the club may just be his priority over the coming months, with Mohamed Salah perhaps the most important one of all.

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol believes the Egyptian is the most likely attacker to leave the club this summer.

Slot cannot afford to lose any attackers before the new season gets underway, unless of course he already has a replacement or two lined up.

That may be the case on Merseyside, with David Ornstein reporting that the Reds are looking for a wide player this summer.

But losing Salah would be particularly disastrous for the club, with Slot now needing to do all he can to convince the winger to remain at Anfield.

An update has now emerged regarding his future at Liverpool, with TEAMtalk reporting that the Reds have placed an August 1 deadline on both themselves and Salah to agree a new contract.

The 32-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer of 2025, with TEAMtalk adding that he is comfortably Liverpool’s highest earner on a £350,000-per-week deal.

Arne Slot needs Mohamed Salah at Liverpool

Fortunately Slot has been left a very strong squad by his predecessor, even if the Reds did fall short in various competitions last time out.

There are several star men at Anfield who can help the new manager ease into life on Merseyside, one of which is Salah.

Liverpool fans have become accustomed to seeing the Egyptian star saving them time and again on the pitch, and they won’t want that to stop anytime soon.

Even if Slot does manage to land a new winger this summer, the new arrival will not be capable of emulating what Salah has done and can indeed continue to do in red.

At 32, the attacker still has plenty to give, with his pace and finishing certain to see several more goals arrive next season, with Salah netting 25 last time out.

The only positive would, of course, be the fee that FSG could generate from his sale, particularly if the player ended up in the Saudi Pro League.
