Even after signing Jamal Lowe: Alan Nixon claims Sheffield Wednesday 'still' want to sign 'fantastic' striker

Sheffield Wednesday completed their first attacking acquisition of the summer window over the weekend.

Jamal Lowe was released by Bournemouth at the end of the season and had attracted interest from a number of clubs, having scored nine goals whilst on loan at Swansea City last term.

Despite being a target for Premier League new boys Ipswich Town, the forward decided to join Sheffield Wednesday after being convinced by Danny Rohl’s ambitions.

Lowe will offer plenty of versatility for Rohl, having played in every attacking position during his career.

While he did mostly play as a centre-forward for Swansea, it is unclear where he will be used for the Owls.

However, their continued search for a striker suggests that perhaps he could be deployed out wide next season.

Sheffield Wednesday ‘still’ want to sign Ike Ugbo

Wednesday have long been eager to re-sign Ike Ugbo, after scoring seven goals for the Yorkshire outfit since January.

However, there were reports that the ‘fantastic‘ Canadian had attracted a lot of interest and would also cost a lot of money to lure to Hillsborough.

When the Owls turned to Lowe, it was suggested that could perhaps their pursuit of Ugbo was over – but it appears not.

When asked whether Ugbo could still return to Wednesday, journalist Alan Nixon wrote: “Still one they would like back.”

Who should the Owls play up front now?

While Lowe is a very good player and has proved his capability in front of goal, the Owls can’t go into the season relying on him as their No.9.

The 29-year-old will surely be used there when needed, but Wednesday need a big, proven striker who can add the goals that they missed last term.

Ugbo would be a really positive addition for Rohl’s side, but paying such a hefty fee for him makes the move questionable.

The Yorkshrie outfit should consider their options elsewhere first, but they will be well aware that they will have to cough up some cash if they are to buy any decent forward this summer.
