Walmart is selling a new noodle flavor we thought was an April Fool's joke

In a shakeup that literally no one saw coming, Walmart is preparing to stock new Cup Noodles in the undeniably confusing Campfire S’mores flavor.

Strange food releases, like the KFC waffle burger, are nothing especially new in the world of fast food and snacking. Normally, the most peculiar of the bunch are saved for teases on April Fool’s Day, as we saw this year when Prime seemingly linked with KFC. This is not one of those times.

Campfire S’mores hides a sweet Cup Noodles twist

Though ramen is typically associated with savory flavors, Cup Noodles hopes to change that fact with their newest (and strangest) invention. This is not the first time the brand has shocked customers with strange combinations, having launched pumpkin-spiced ramen in 2021.

In their first dive into the world of sweet treats, Cup Noodles has designed a Campfire S’mores-inspired sauce made from chocolate, marshmallow, and graham crackers. The pot even comes with extra marshmallows to be sprinkled on top.

The limited edition Campfire S’mores Cup Noodles are available at Walmart and the Nissin site while stocks last. Currently, they are priced at $1.18.

“Ramen is eaten at all parts of the day during all times,” Nissin Foods USA Senior VP Priscila Stanton said. “We believe that ramen can play in all of these different areas, and sweet is definitely one of those areas that we’ve had some success in.”

While some would argue that the flavor combination is weird, that’s exactly the point, the Nissin Foods VP explained. You see, it “shakes things up in the consumer’s mind” and captures their attention.

“We believe this nostalgic flavor is going to start a lot of conversations and get people to remember those campfire moments that they had growing up or are still having,” she said, adding that Gen Z is the obvious target demographic.

Customers are divided

While images of the Campfire S’mores Cup Noodles have made their way across the internet, most customers just can’t land on a definitive opinion.

On the @Snackolator Instagram page, which previously teased releases like the jumbo-sized Reese’s Cups, foodies debated the product with great passion.

“Other than in a slaw, I have managed to go 48 years without ever eating these ramen noodle packs. This may be what changes that. It’s so weird I feel like I HAVE to,” one person confessed.

Another said: “There has to be a little town somewhere where noodles are a dessert because these last few flavors haven’t made a lick of sense.”

“I heard it has garlic and onion mixed in. Why it’s there? It going be nasty,” someone else countered with.
