iPhones have a built-in camera tool which is a game-changer for plant-lovers

iPhone users are only just learning of a handy feature that allows you to instantly identify plants, therefore unlocking their care instructions.

In 2024, the iPhone is the pocket knife of technology, offering a range of features aimed to make our lives easier. Though some experts have offered insider knowledge into said features, some, like the instant translation tool, always slip through the cracks.

You can identify plants using your iPhone camera

Darcy and Jeremy (@thedarcymichael) are no strangers to offering golden gardening advice to their 3.7 million followers on TikTok. In their latest clip, which was posted a week ago, Darcy took his followers into the garden for a cheeky hack.

“I feel like some people might not know this trick,” he said. “But if you have an iPhone and take a picture of a plant, hit this little thing at the bottom, the little info button, and it will tell you what plant it is.”

To make use of this handy feature, head over to your photo albums and pick an image of a plant. Once there, select the information icon at the very bottom, which should bring up a bunch of information like the camera, time of day, location, and file type.

Shockingly, the feature also works for identifying a dog breed and getting up-laundry information on clothes. Presumably, the feature will only grow more expansive as iOS18 rolls out later this year.

‘I’m paying for a separate app to do this’

A lot of Darcy’s followers confessed to purchasing subscriptions that offered the same feature at an astronomical price. It’s reasonable to assume they will soon be canceling their subscriptions.

“SHUT THE FRONT DOOR WHAT?!??!?” one person screamed.

“THANK YOUUUU!!! Yesss I know this from my sister’s Android. You made me SO HAPPY!!!” another said, while a third wrote, “So you’re saying I bought a plant identification app for NO REASON.”
