Report: Wolves close in on signing 'interesting' £25m target as key contract details now emerge

Gary O’Neil’s wait for a striker is almost over as Wolves are close to announcing the signing of Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The 2023/24 season was an interesting one for Wolves, who despite struggling at times, saw glimpses of the side they could become under Gary O’Neil.

O’Neil made it clear throughout the campaign that support was required in the summer transfer window, as his squad severely lacked depth.

Now, the Englishman’s wishes are coming true, as Wolves are close to announcing the captures of Jorgen Strand Larsen and Pedro Lima, who will join Tommy Doyle and Rodrigo Gomes as the opening arrivals of 2024/25.

How long Jorgen Strand Larsen contract will be at Wolves as transfer edges closer

18-year-old Lima’s agent was spotted at Compton Park on Monday to finalise the deal, with Strand Larsen set to follow.

The Celta Vigo talisman is poised to complete a £25m transfer from the Spanish side, signing on an initial loan before his transfer becomes permanent.

Now, Norwegian outlet TV2 has revealed details about the 24-year-old’s contract, including how long his stay at Molineux is expected to be.

The report stated that to their understanding, the striker ‘has agreed’ to a five-year deal with Wolves, with the option for a further year extension included.

TV2 confirmed that the transfer will be an initial loan, as expected, however, such detail is described as ‘more of a formality’.

It’s expected to be a busy week at Molineux, with Lima and Strand Larsen set to be unveiled as O’Neil’s newest recruits.

What Wolves can expect from Strand Larsen

Celta Vigo were eager to capture the Norweigan from Dutch outfit Groningen in the summer of 2022 after Strand Larsen impressed in the Eredivisie.

During his time in the Netherlands, the striker contributed to 36 goals in 71 appearances, seeing him dubbed an ‘extremely interesting centre-forward’ by talent scout Jacek Kulig.

Last season in La Liga, the 24-year-old found the net 13 times which ultimately led to Wolves’ interest, in what could be a strong capture for O’Neil.

The Wolves boss was eager to recruit a centre-forward in January but had no luck, with a number nine presence now poised to arrive ahead of 2024/25 in the form of the Norway international.
