‘Made an enquiry’: Wolves could finally sell £27.5m outcast as Italian giants circle - journalist

Wolves are looking to shift multiple players from their wage bill this summer, including an outcast who is currently garnering interest from Italy.

Wolves have been surprisingly busy in the early stages of the summer transfer window following a 14th-place finish in the Premier League.

Following the arrivals of Tommy Doyle and Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima only needs to pass his medical on Saturday to become a Wolves player while striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is in advanced talks to seal a move to Wolverhampton.

Strand Larsen – a 24-year-old likened to Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland – would fill the void at striker that Gary O’Neil has been craving for a long time.

The Celta Vigo striker would offer security in the striker position that can allow other players to depart, including a flop that Bruno Lage signed in 2022.

Genoa have ‘made an enquiry’ for Wolves outcast Goncalo Guedes

Signed from Valencia for £27.5 million in the summer of 2022, Guedes is just one of many examples of ways Wolves have thrown money down the drain in the Fosun era and dragged themselves into PSR danger.

The 27-year-old has made just 18 appearances for the Wanderers and last season, was loaned to two different clubs, Benfica and Villarreal.

One of the club’s most disappointing acquisitions in recent years, O’Neil has made the Portuguese international available for transfer this summer and speaking on The Wolfpack Podcast, transfer insider Ben Jacobs has spoken of interest in the attacker.

“There’s some interest from Spain and the mid echelons of Italy that Genoa have made an enquiry as well but they would only want a loan deal,” Jacobs said.

“So it’s a key juncture now for the player and for Wolves because they’ve got to either draw a line under this permanently or do yet another loan deal.”

Wolves must sell Goncalo Guedes permanently

Much like another Portuguese talent, Fabio Silva, Guedes arrived at Molineux with so much hype following spells at PSG and Valencia but has ultimately fallen way below those expectations.

Therefore, it is best for both parties if the 32-cap Portugal international is shifted on permanently this summer, despite Jacobs claiming Genoa only want to sign him on loan.

That is likely due to his contract situation at Wolves, as with three years left to run, Fosun will want to hold out for the best fee possible.

Unfortunately, the reality of them recouping most of the £27.5 million they paid for him seems impossible and the Old Gold will need to accept losing a big chunk of money to get him off the wage bill.

According to Capology, Guedes is the joint-highest earner in O’Neil’s squad on £90,000-a-week and the fleet-footed forward hasn’t justified paying that sum whatsoever.

Indeed, offloading Guedes permanently this summer could play an important role in their transfer activity.
