Record-breaking Tottenham transfer flop set to join OGC Nice following contract exit

Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time record transfer Tanguy Ndombele has agreed to join OGC Nice.

Tottenham are set for a summer of change this coming transfer window, with a number of arrivals and departures set to shake up the Spurs squad.

The likes of Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic are already out the exit door with more set to join them, as Spurs reportedly look to sell the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Emerson Royal – according to The Times.

Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon have also left the club following the expiration of their Spurs deals, with the latter reportedly close to joining Crystal Palace.

Another of Tottenham’s contract departures now looks set to land themselves a new club, with Tanguy Ndombele reportedly set to join French side OGC Nice.

Joining the summer of 2019 for a record transfer fee of £63 million, Ndombele was brought in alongside Giovani Lo Celso in an attempt to reshape the Tottenham midfield.

Scoring on his debut against Aston Villa, hopes were high for the midfielder – those hopes however would slowly fade away over the next few years.

Persistent fitness issues and disagreements with managers, Ndombele’s undoubtable talent was overshadowed by his limitations.

Following a relatively successful loan spell at Napoli in which he won the league, it was hoped the arrival of Ange Postecoglou could potentially revive the Frenchman’s Spurs career – that however would not be the case.

Being sent on loan to Turkish outfit Galatasaray, Ndombele arrived in Türkiye overweight and unfit.

After a measly four league starts, the 27-year-old returned to Hotspur Way this summer and would see his Spurs contracted terminated after five years at the club.

According to Footmercato, the former Spurs midfielder has reportedly agreed to join French side OGC Nice on a two-year deal.

Having been made a free agent following the termination of his Spurs contract, Ndombele reportedly rejected offers from several European clubs as well as clubs in Saudi Arabia, to join Nice.

The French outfit are no stranger to giving players a second chance, having previously signed the likes of Ross Barkley and Mario Balotelli following failed Premier League spells.

Returning to his homeland, Ndombele will hope this move can help get his career back on track after a rough few years at Spurs.
