Report: Newcastle really want to sign 'talented' playmaker with 120 Premier League appearances

The Magpies are keen on signing a Premier League player, according to a recent report.

It’s been a chaotic few days at Newcastle United as they tried to push through late sales to comply with Profit and Sustainability.

For a moment it looked like Anthony Gordon might be one of the players forced out but Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson ended up departing for sizable fees and now attention can turn towards incomings.

With that said, they’re really keen on a Premier League number 10.

Newcastle really want to sign Morgan Gibbs-White

According to INews, Newcastle are really keen on signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.

The ‘talented’ (as quoted by Nuno Espirito Santo via the BBC website) 24-year-old has enjoyed two productive seasons at Forest following his £42.5m switch from Wolves in 2022.

Gibbs-White, who has clocked up 120 Premier League appearances, netted six times whilst laying on 10 assists last term and his form in a Forest short has led many to suggest he should be called up to the senior England squad.

He may feel a move to a European challenging club is needed to fulfil those aspirations and Newcastle seems prepared to offer him that platform.

The cost of Morgan Gibbs-White

If Newcastle are to land the signature of Gibbs-White, it certainly won’t come on the cheap as Forest aren’t in any rush to sell now that the financial year has ended.

They were one of the clubs that needed to sell to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations but after offloading Moussa Niakhate and Odysseas Vlachodimos, it seems they’re in a strong position to keep their prized assets.

So, at this stage, any move for Gibbs-White would likely take an eye-watering fee, perhaps north of £60m.
