Report: Eddie Howe is 'very disappointed' after what Newcastle United have done already this summer

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is a master when it comes to helping players reach their potential.

He is doing it with Anthony Gordon at St James’ Park, while there is hope that Lewis Miley will continue to develop under the Newcastle United manager and become the generational talent that he looks like he can be.

Eddie Howe has made so many players better since becoming Newcastle boss, and it was hoped he would do the same with Yankuba Minteh. However, he has been robbed of that opportunity.

Newcastle United cash in on Yankuba Minteh

Having only joined the Magpies 12 months ago, Minteh has already called time on his Toon career.

After a blistering loan spell at Feyenoord, the 19-year-old was identified as a possible solution to Newcastle’s PSR problem last month.

That resulted in Minteh signing for Brighton, with the Seagulls paying £33million for the Gambian winger.

Minteh leaves Newcastle United without playing a single minute for the club, but his departure has helped ensure that the club avoids a points deduction in the future.

How Eddie Howe feels about Newcastle selling Minteh

It was a necessary departure, but still a painful one. There was a lot of excitement surrounding Minteh – especially after he did so well for Feyenoord.

And, according to Give Me Sport, Howe is ‘very disappointed’ about Minteh leaving Newcastle United.

They report that Howe had a plan in place for Minteh to eventually become a key player at St James’ Park, but that plan will no longer come to life.

PSR scuppers Newcastle plan

Howe is disappointed, and understandably so. Most Toon fans are, as it was clear that Minteh is a player with a lot of potential who could blossom into a fan favourite on Tyneside.

Now he is going to get the chance to shine on the south coast, where Brighton will hope that Minteh reaches the potential that Newcastle thought he had.

But for all his potential, Newcastle simply had to sell. PSR put them in an impossible position, and it resulted in Minteh being sacrificed.

It also forced Elliot Anderson to go, which is another devastating departure.

It has been a brutal few days for Newcastle United fans, who deserve to hear from the hierarchy to explain what has gone on. The Magpies appeared to be in a bit of a mess during the dying embers of June, as they battled to avoid a points deduction. It was a situation they knew they had to deal with, yet waited until the final minute.

It resulted in Minteh being moved on, with Howe robbed of the chance to work his magic on a teenager who could come back to haunt Newcastle United very soon.
