West Ham face competition from Atletico Madrid for Jhon Arias

TBR reported last month that West Ham United were interested in signing Fluminense winger Jhon Arias this summer transfer window.

However, a fresh report from Canal RCN has brought Atletico Madrid into the equation whilst reiterating The Hammers’ interest.

The Spanish club are determined to land his signature this summer and a preparing to launch a first proposal.

Arias, who is under contract until 2026, is valued at £13.5m, though, it’s understood that interest could drive that value up.

Sevilla are also keen on the 26-year-old.

Jhon Arias statistics

Arias has netted six times whilst laying on five assists for the Brazilian outfit so far this season and his FBref statistics are really impressive.

The Columbia international ranks in the top 15 per cent for successful take-ons per 90 compared to his positional peers across Brazil and beyond.

Further, he sits in the top eight per cent for pass completion, evincing his proficiency on the ball – a trait that will please Lopetegui.

If West Ham can beat Atletico Madrid to his signature, it’d be a really shrewd acquisition and one that’d provide depth on both flanks and even in the number 10 role.
