Wolves shirt numbers: Discover the current and former holders of iconic Old Gold squad numbers

Find all the information you need on Wolves squad numbers ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Old Gold shirts over the years have been worn by some of Wolves’ greatest players. Legendary striker Steve Bull donned the number nine shirt for many years as he smashed in the goals.

Many of Wolves’ current first team have made their jersey their own. For example, Hwang Hee-Chan’s number 11 shirt was a regular feature in the 2023/24 campaign. However, can you remember his old number?

Here, Molineux News has listed everything you need to know about Wolves’ squad number history and the 2024/25 numbers as they stand. Highlighted below are some of the most memorable and recent players to have worn the shirt.

Ahead of the upcoming season, there could easily be one or two changes with one iconic jersey set to become free.

This article will be updated pending squad number changes for the new campaign.

1 – Jose Sa

Previously worn by: Carl Ikeme, Wayne Hennessey, Marcus Hahnemann, Paul Bradshaw, Bert Williams.

Jose Sa once again began to don the Wolves number one shirt at the start of the 2021/22 season after it was briefly not in use to honour Ikeme’s retirement.

2 – Matt Doherty

Previously worn by: Ki-Jana Hoever, Neill Collins, Dennis Irwin, Kevin Muscat, John Humphrey.

Matt Doherty took back his traditional number two shirt after a brief few years away from the club at the start of the 2023/24 season.

3 – Rayan Ait-Nouri

Previously worn by: Barry Douglas, Scott Golbourne, George Elokobi, Neill Collins, Lee Taylor.

The Algerian brought the number three shirt back after numerous seasons away in the 2020/21 campaign where Rayan Ait-Nouri has made it his own.

4 – Santiago Bueno

Previously worn by: Nathan Collins, Jesus Vallejo, Alfred N’Diaye, David Edwards, Seji Olofinjana, Alex Rae, Kenny Hibbitt, Ron Flowers, Mike Bailey.

The Wolves number four shirt has been worn by many iconic players over its history. As it stands Santiago Bueno has occupied the number since the 2023/24 campaign.

5 – Mario Lemina

Previously worn by: Marcal, Ryan Bennett, Mike Williamson, Richard Stearman, Joleon Lescott, Mike Bailey, Ron Flowers, Frank Munro, Billy Wright, Stan Cullis.

Mario Lemina took the number five shirt when he signed for the club in January 2023.

6 – Boubacar Traore

Previously worn by: Bruno Jordao, Danny Batth, Jody Craddock, Frank Munroe, Ron Flowers, Billy Wright.

A number used by many Wolves captains of the past, Boubacar Traore has ensured that the number six shirt is now regularly seen back on the Molineux pitch.

7 – Pedro Neto

Previously worn by: Ivan Cacaleiro, James Henry, Slawomir Peszko, Michael Kightly, Kenny Hibbitt, Steve Daley, Peter Broadbent, Frank Munroe

Pedro Neto began to don the iconic number seven shirt from the 2019/20 season where he has found a great deal of success.

8 – Joao Gomes

Previously worn by: Ruben Neves, George Saville, David Davis, Karl Henry, Paul Ince, Denis Irwin, Mel Eves, Steve Daley, Ron Flowers, Peter Broadbent, Andy Gray, Kenny Hibbitt

Joao Gomes had the difficult task of taking over the number eight shirt which had been worn by the iconic Ruben Neves for years. Thankfully, he has lived up to the shirt’s reputation thus far.

9 – Jorgen Strand Larsen

Previously worn by: Fabio Silva,Raul Jimenez, Rafa Mir, Nouha Dicko, Leon Clarke, Leigh Griffiths, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Andy Keogh, Steve Bull, Andy Gray, John Richards, Derek Dougan, Mel Eves.

Jorgen Strand Larsen is set to be given the number nine shirt after signing for Wolves. Fabio Silva was given it last season once Jimenez left, however, this did not produce any success.

10 – Daniel Podence

Previously worn by: Patrick Cutrone, Helder Costa, Joe Mason, Benik Afobe, Bakary Sako, Steven Fletcher, Andy Keogh, Peter Broadbent, John Richards, Derek Dougan, Mel Eves, Frank Munroe.

The number 10 shirt also may be without an owner going into the 2024/25 campaign if Daniel Podence does depart Wolves.

11 – Hwang Hee-Chan

Previously worn by: Francisco Trincao, Rui Patricio, Jordan Graham, Kevin McDonald, Steven Ward, Mark Kennedy, Dennis Wilshaw, Frank Munroe, John Richards, Steve Daley, Dave Wagstaffe.

Hwang Hee-Chan has officially worn the number 11 shirt since the 2022/23 campaign. For many years in the Premier League, it was used by goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

12 – Matheus Cunha

Previously worn by: Willian Jose, Ben Marshall, Jed Wallace, Benik Afobe, Stephen Hunt, Jody Craddock, Rob Edwards, Andy Gray, Derek Dougan, Mel Eves, John Richards, Steve Daley.

Matheus Cunha took over the number 12 shirt that had seemed cursed in recent years and has made it his own.

Previously worn by: Matija Sarkic, Louie Moulden, Harry Burgoyne, Carl Ikeme, Wayne Hennessey, Marcus Hahnemann, Matt Murray.

The number 13 jersey has not been in use since the 2022/23 campaign where the late goalkeeper Sarkic donned the number.

Previously worn by: Noha Lemina, Yerson Mosquera, Bright Enobakhare, Michal Zyro, Lee Evans, Roger Johnson, David Jones.

With Yerson Mosquera likely to come back into the Wolves fold for the 2024/25 campaign, it remains to be seen whether takes back his old number 14 shirt.

15 – Craig Dawson

Craig Dawson took over the number 15 shirt in January 2023 and has continued Boly’s legacy of being a rock at the back.

Previously worn by: Conor Coady, Kevin Doyle, Jake Cassidy, Christophe Berra, Mark Davies, Kenny Miller.

Since former captain Coady left the club in the 2023 summer, no one has yet taken the number 16 shirt.

17 – Hugo Bueno

Previously worn by: Goncalo Guedes, Fabio Silva, Morgan Gibbs-White, Helder Costa, Rajiv van La Parra, Matt Jarvis, Stephen Ward, Henri Camara, Leon Clarke

Hugo Bueno took the number 17 shirts off flop Goncalo Guedes after the Portuguese man was sent out on loan for the 2023/24 campaign.

18 – Sasa Kalajdzic

Previously worn by: Morgan Gibbs-White, Diogo Jota, Dominic Iorfa, Sam Ricketts, Sam Vokes, George Ndah.

Sasa Kalajdzic hasn’t had much chance to wear the number 18 shirt due to injuries and loan spells away from the club.

Previously worn by: Jonny, Benik Afobe, Jack Price, Chris Iwelumo, Joleon Lescott.

No one is yet to take the number 19 shirt which was worn by Jonny for years in the Premier League.

20 – Tommy Doyle

Previously worn by: Chiquinho, Vitinha, Prince Oniangue, Nenad Milijas.

Tommy Doyle used the number 20 shirt for his loan spell in the 2023/24 campaign. Now the move has been made permanent, it remains to be seen if he keeps the number.

21 – Pablo Sarabia

Previously worn by: John Ruddy, Andy Lonergan, Zeli Ismail, Andy Keogh, Michael Mancienne.

The Spaniard took over the number 21 shirt in January 2023 and has slowly improved as his Wolves career continued.

22 – Nelson Semedo

Nelson Semedo is easily the best Wolves player to wear the number 22 shirt since donning the number from the 2020/21 season.

23 – Max Kilman

Previously worn by: Patrick Cutrone, Ethan Ebanks-Landell, Nouha Dicko, Ronald Zubar, Paul Ince.

The current captain changed to the 23 shirt in the 21/22 campaign.

24 – Toti Gomes

Previously worn by: Morgan Gibbs-White, Joao Teixeira, Jordan Graham, Jamie O’Hara, Alex Rae.

Toti Gomes took the 24 shirt for the 2021/22 campaign and has kept the number ever since.

25 – Dan Bentley

Previously worn by: Conor Ronan, Roderick Miranda, Paul Gladon, Jamie O’Hara, Danny Batth.

Wolves’ current backup goalie Dan Bentley uses the number 25 shirt when out on the field.

Previously worn by: Hwang Hee-Chan, Emi Martinez, Scott Golbourne, David Edwards, Kenny Miller.

The number 26 shirt has not been used since Hwang Hee-Chan picked up the number 11 jersey.

27 – Jean-Ricner Bellegarde

Previously worn by: Matheus Nunes, Romain Saiss, Michael Jacobs, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, Michael Mancienne.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde quickly took over the number 27 shirt after Matheus Nunes’ record transfer to Man City.

Previously worn by: Joao Moutinho.

The Portuguese international was the last one to use the shirt and the only memorable name to don the 28 jersey.

29 –

Previously worn by: Diego Costa, Ruben Vinagre, Kevin Doyle.

Often a number used for Wolves’ strikers, it is currently free after Costa left the club.

30 – Enso Gonzalez

Previously worn by: Kortney Hause, Matt Doherty, Carl Ikeme.

Youngster Enso Gonzalez used the number 30 shirt during the 2023/24 campaign.

Previously worn by: Will Norris, Dorus de Vries, Matt Murray.

Another traditional goalkeeper number has not been in use since the 2019/20 campaign.

32 – Joe Hodge

Previously worn by: Leander Dendoncker, Kevin Foley, Tomasz Frankowski.

Youngster Joe Hodge was given the number 32 shirt at the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

40 – Tom King

Previously worn by: Nouha Dicko, Danny Batth, George Elokobi.

Wolves’ third ‘keeper took over the number 40 shirt after a long absence from the pitch.

63 – Nathan Fraser

Previously worn by: Andreas Weimann

Nathan Fraser’s shirt number has weirdly been used before when Weimann had his loan spell at the club back in the 2016/17 campaign.
