'I'm told': Wolves' highest earning player currently has interest from two Saudi clubs - journalist

Clubs in Saudi Arabia are reportedly keen to sign the current highest-earning player at Wolves.

It is expected that we will once again see clubs from the SPL targeting high-profile players from Europe, as they seek to grow the profile of their league.

Last summer, we saw a number of top stars move to the Middle East.

Ruben Neves was one such player, with Al Hilal paying Wolves around £47 million for his transfer.

Last year, Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. But now, another player from Wolves has emerged as a target for the league.

Journalist Ben Jacobs has been speaking about all things transfer-related on The Wolfpack podcast, and it would appear that Pablo Sarabia is a player clubs in Saudi fancy signing.

Sarabia had an interesting 2023/24 season at Wolves.

He didn’t start very well, with Gary O’Neil much preferring the likes of Matheus Cunha, Pedro Neto and Hwang Hee-chan up top.

But injuries to those three players at various points allowed him to play a fairly big part in the end.

Sarabia made 36 appearances in total, and scored four goals while supplying 10 assists.

Despite a relatively decent season, there has been a little bit of speculation he could be a player on his way this summer. He is thought to be Wolves’ highest earner on around £90,000-a-week.

Jacobs now believes there is interest in the Spaniard from Saudi clubs. He said: “The interest, I’m told, in Pablo Sarabia is still there.

“12 months ago it was almost a given. Because he was like frozen out, he wasn’t really involved, he wasn’t really playing. It looked like he was quite unhappy. Then I seem to recall he got more minutes and ended up being more integral and very useful. Maybe the Wolves position has changed.

“Al-Ettifaq and Al-Shabab both still have an interest in Sarabia. It’s just a case of whether they can get him.”

Interestingly, Jacobs adds that had Al-Ettifaq not signed Demari Gray last summer, then they would have pushed for Sarabia as he was next on their list.

Wolves should let Sarabia go for the right price

Sarabia finished 2023/24 with 14 goal involvement which was a pretty decent return.

But despite that, many Wolves fans still are not completely sold on the former Paris Saint-Germain star.

When Wolves were at their very best last season, Cunha, Neto and Hwang were all playing in attack, and Sarabia was on the bench.

Wolves were more dynamic and threatening with those three playing in tandem. Sarabia is a great technician, but for some, he does slow play down a bit too much sometimes.

Some feel that he ought to have shown more given his status as the highest-earning player at the club.

That said, Wolves should certainly hear any offers coming in for Sarabia this summer.
