Report: What Tottenham said to Archie Gray before he signed which really pleased him

Archie Gray was reportedly assured of one thing ahead of his move to Tottenham Hotspur from Leeds United.

Spurs have snapped up a real gem in Archie Gray, with the youngster arriving as one of the brightest prospects in the EFL following an impressive breakthrough season at Leeds.

The 18-year-old racked up 52 appearances in all competitions under Daniel Farke in what was his first full season at first-team level.

Pundits have already raised concerns over Gray’s chances of earning regular game time at Tottenham, with Jeff Stelling suggesting he’d have been better off remaining at Elland Road.

But according to The Athletic, Ange Postecoglou’s side have made certain assurances over Gray’s playing time.

Gray happy with playing time assurances at Tottenham

Postecoglou has a wealth of options to choose from in midfield, particularly after the arrivals of Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

Giovani Lo Celso looks set to depart but that would still leave the Aussie with the likes of James Maddison, Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur.

However, The Athletic claims that with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg also expected to leave, Gray is pleased with the amount of game time he was assured of ahead of his move to Tottenham.

Gray’s versatility will be important for Tottenham

Emerson Royal is another who is likely to head out the door this summer amid interest from AC Milan.

Gray mainly operated at right-back for Leeds last season and should Royal depart, his versatility could lead to more opportunities under Postecoglou.

Spurs will also be competing in the Europa League next season and the early stages of the tournament will hand Postecoglou an opportunity to take a closer look at younger talents.

With that being said, Gray could well be ready for the step up to Premier League football and it will be intriguing to see how he adjusts.

His performance against Chelsea in the FA Cup back in February would certainly suggest that is the case as he scooped the Player of the Match award at Stamford Bridge.
