In-demand talent has 'impressed' Arsenal scouts ahead of potential move, there is one problem

Arsenal are looking to strengthen the quality of young talents at Hale End, and are seeking to recruit this summer.

Edu Gaspar and Per Mertesacker are eager to bring in top talents to help raise the level of the academy sides, but were recently handed a blow as Manchester City hijacked their move for Chelsea starlet Ryan McAidoo.

Arsenal have not been deterred though, and they could be close to making another academy signing after goalkeeper Lucas-Martin Nygaard joined last week, as one talented teenager is now on trial in North London.

Callan Hamill trains with Arsenal as interest in St Johnstone starlet grows

The Athletic have now reported that St Johnstone teenager Callan Hamill is currently training at Arsenal’s academy on trial.

This is with a view to a potential move to North London next summer, but there is a complication.

“The 15-year-old right back represents Scotland at his age group and has been allowed to spend time experiencing the environment having impressed scouts,” they stated.

“Hamill can only move cross-border at the end of his under-16 season which would mean any compensation deal would take place next summer. Rangers and Celtic are both interested in the player, who can also play centre-back.”

The 15-year-old has seemingly impressed Arsenal scouts, and given that the two biggest clubs in Scotland are eyeing him up, Hamill is regarded as a top prospect for the future.

Arsenal defensive prospect Reuell Walters has just departed on a free transfer, with the highly promising talent leaving in search of more game time.

Hamill, like Walters, is a young talent who can play at right-back and centre-back, and perhaps he is seen as a replacement for the former Hale End prodigy.

However, the teenager will not be able to join until next summer, and given the interest in him from Rangers and Celtic, it would not be a surprise to see him move within Scotland now rather than crossing the border down to North London.

Nevertheless, it is possible that Arsenal agree a deal with St Johnstone, and that he moves next summer. If he has impressed during training with the Arsenal academy, then the club may be keen to secure his future as they aim to create a stronger talent pool who can develop into first-team players.
