Arsenal stall on £85m striker deal as Mikel Arteta handed Ivan Toney verdict

Catch a round-up of the latest Arsenal news, including updates on Viktor Gyokeres, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ivan Toney.

Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal transfer latest

Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer market.

The Swedish international bagged 29 goals in 33 league appearances last season, leading to Mikel Arteta’s interest.

So far though, the Arsenal boss and his hierarchy are yet to make their move for the 26-year-old in the market.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, speaking to GiveMeSport, that is down to a clause in his contract.

“For Gyokeres, Sporting still want a release clause. They want a package of €100million (£85million) for Viktor Gyokeres.

“This is an expensive deal, and this is why Arsenal have shown interest in the recent months but, at the moment, are still not advancing, because they want to understand how much is going to be the final package.

“We know that sometimes, in the market, the price can change.

“In June, you have a price, and then in July and August, it can change. So let’s see what Arsenal will decide to do.”

Albert Sambi Lokonga’s Arsenal transfer exit

With plenty of news surrounding potential incomings at Arsenal, there’s also talk about squad players that could leave this summer.

One of those heavily linked with a move away is midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga, following on from an impressive loan spell with Luton Town.

That move has led to some interest in the Belgian as Spanish journalist Mario Mijenz claims that Spanish side Sevilla are confident of striking a deal.

“Sambi Lokonga is getting closer to Sevilla FC,” he claimed. “There is still no agreement but the club is very optimistic that he will be a Sevilla player next season.”

It’s a move that could see Arsenal bag some profit for a player who is appearing less and less likely to be part of Arteta’s plans moving forward.

Neal Maupay verdict on Arsenal transfer target Ivan Toney

Another striker on the transfer radar for Arsenal is Brentford and England star Ivan Toney, following an impressive run in the Premier League.

The forward has shown an ability to score goals on top of his general hold-up play and ability to draw his teammates into the game.

With just one year left on his contract with the Bees, Toney could be set for a move this summer, though it remains to be seen if it will be to the Emirates Stadium or elsewhere.

If the Gunners needed any convincing of his ability though, a former teammate of Toney’s, Neal Maupay, has explained exactly what he is capable of.

Speaking to talkSPORT (02/06/2024, 08:40), the Frenchman said: “Ivan is a top striker. He scores goals. That’s what he does.

“Give him some minutes and I am sure he will do well, and that’s what he did, to be fair. He gave an assist [for England v Slovakia] and he was dangerous.

“He had a chance, headed the ball well. Maybe put him on a bit earlier and he will do something.”
