Intriguing Lawrence Shankland transfer update as Rangers close in on new striker - report

In a summer of Rangers transfer links, the sounds around one Lawrence Shankland have been suspiciously quiet.

Heading into the last window in January, newspaper space was dominated by Rangers links to the talismanic Hearts forward.

Given the striker wound up on 31 goals last season, it wasn’t without good reason.

But after Scotland’s woeful showing at Euro 2024, some might’ve expected to hear more about potential Rangers interest in Lawrence Shankland this summer.

Now, perhaps for the first time in the window, one report has provided a transfer update and claims both Rangers and Shankland could be playing a waiting game.

Shankland to Rangers latest

Rangers are on the hunt for striker reinforcements this summer.

One such number nine signing is reportedly imminent too, with Moroccan hitman Hamza Igamane edging closer to a switch to Ibrox.

But that £1.7m deal is unlikely to be the last in the final third as Philippe Clement looks to bolster a frontline which was found wanting last season.

With Cyriel Dessers also strongly linked with a move to Greece, it’s a position there could be substantial upheaval in this window.

And yet Lawrence Shankland’s name has barely made a headline, until now.

The Daily Mail have claimed that the bluenose forward would ‘jump at the chance of a move to Ibrox’.

But it’s said that Rangers are unwilling to meet Hearts’ current valuation with the striker available for nothing next summer.

As a result, a transfer this season is branded ‘unlikely’ and we’ll just have to wait and see if anyone else swoops in to sign the Scotland star.

Are Gers missing a transfer trick?

The claims come after Philippe Clement admitted that Rangers are on the hunt for more experience to come into the squad this summer.

The club have secured the signings of several talented young players but have lost a number of previously key first-team stars.

With Scotland international Kenny McLean, 32, amongst those expected to come into the side, the situation with 28-year-old Lawrence Shankland will interest fans.

The lethal Hearts forward knows the league, has a proven scoring record and is firmly aware of the expectations at Ibrox being a Rangers fan.

If another window passes where Rangers have failed to snap the striker up – and the club’s forward line once again stutters this season – we suspect the situation will come under increasing scrutiny.
