Rangers transfer twist as £3.5m deal that was at 'advanced stages' takes unwanted turn

Rangers have made a promising start to the transfer window bringing a younger look to Philippe Clement’s team.

The squad needed to be overhauled but there are murmurs about a lack of senior players circulating on social media.

Nils Koppen was said to be in the “advanced stages” of negotiations with a winger who would go straight into the manager’s team and with a proven track record of scoring goals.

Rangers face fight for Adama Traore

Things have gone quiet recently though and only Oscar Cortes has been secured as being a “new” face for next season.

Ianis Hagi has been starring in the European Championships and his future is still undecided with a return to Ibrox very much still on the cards.

The Romanian playmaker played his best football in the right-wing role that he contributed 23 goals and assists in 36 starts during Rangers last title winning season.

Hagi isn’t an out-and-out winger though and this is the type of player that Clement wants.

Despite not having many options last season, the Gers boss would always revert to pace and natural wide men.

Africa Foot reported that Adama Traore is to leave Ferencvaros after two years in which he has scored 32 goals and created 16 assists in 73 appearances and Rangers are very interested, however, NB1 has claimed from Hungary that Panathanaikos are also eyeing a move.

Traore ticks Philippe Clement’s box for more experience at Rangers

Traore has both quality and experience something that Clement has hinted that will be arriving soon:

“We were focused on everything, but it is easier earlier to get the young players in, but for the rest of the transfer window there will also be experience coming into the building and we need a good balance in the squad and in the team of both.

“It was important to find these young talents and I think we have found a few really exciting players for the future for this club.”

Reported as one of the fastest players around and with a Kylian Mbappe-esque top speed, Traore would be a huge upgrade on the right of Rangers attack.

Pace is essential, but the fact that the 28-year old Mali international can finish too would make him a quality addition, even for a fee said to be in the region of £3.5m.

The first tranche of players have arrived at Ibrox and all meet a certain criteria of players who can contribute to the first team but who should make the club money in the future.

The second has to be players like Traore who will catch the imagination of the support and provide a genuine belief that the team is in better shape than when it ended last season.
