Tuxford Manor care home on Lincoln Road, Tuxford organised a beach day for its residents and staff

A care home has brought the seaside to its residents as the sun shines through.

Tuxford Manor Care Home on Lincoln Road, Tuxford, hosted an open week at the home and decided to treat its residents to some summer vibes.

There were paddling pools and decorations around the garden, a candy floss machine, a doughnut stand and live entertainment.

Residents had the chance the get involved and sing and dance alongside staff followed by some traditional fish and chips.

Jemma Liffen, the deputy manager at the care home said: “We made it look like back in the day with the old style newspaper, it was a hit even the residents who can not usually feed themselves due to their dementia were digging in deep and lapping up their fish and chips it was amazing to see.

“It meant the world to the residents and staff everyone said what an amazing day they had and it really did feel like they were at the seaside.

“It was also lovely that families came to be with their loved ones and joined in with the event some even brought their own fish and chips and sat on the lawn.”

The Tuxford Co-Op donated a hamper and Morrisons donated towards the care home raffle.

Some of the residents at the care home are unable to go to the seaside due to their illnesses or medical conditions, therefore, the staff decided to organise to take advantage of the sun and warmth and organise the beach day.

Jemma added: “It is very important as it greatly improves physical and emotional wellbeing for the residents and encourages those that don’t usually go out and sit in the garden to go out and sit in the sunshine and join in with the fun, events like this also brings the community together.”
