Tom Huddlestone’s Tottenham career

The box-to-box midfielder played for Tottenham for eight years between 2005 and 2013, making 144 appearances in all competitions under several different managers.

His biggest moment in North London was, without a doubt, scoring a searing strike against Arsenal which would help spark a comeback against their North London rivals in April 2011.

The former playmaker was best known for his passing ability, managing to play accurate passes over long distances as well as being capable of the occasional strike at goal that would nearly take the net off.

During his time at Spurs, Huddlestone would earn four England caps and even made the provisional 30-man squad for the 2010 World Cup under Fabio Capello but would ultimately not make the final 23-man squad list.

Under Redknapp, the midfielder became a mainstay in the Tottenham side but became plagued with injury towards the end of his time in North London and would eventually be sold in August 2013 to Hull City for just over £5m.

What’s next for Tom Huddlestone?

Huddlestone, who has spent the last two seasons as both a player and coach for Manchester United’s under-21 side, has landed a new coaching role quickly after being released by the Red Devils.

The Manchester side announced on June 5th, 2024 that the 37-year-old would not be continuing at United, but he will not have to move far for his new coaching role.

Wigan Athletic announced on the that he will bolster manager Shaun Maloney’s coaching staff for the coming season as the Lancashire side look to improve last season’s midtable finish.

Maloney was teammates with his now-fellow coach at Hull City and told the Wigan Athletic Club website: “The last two years have been really educational from a coaching standpoint. It’s given me the ambition as coaching is something I want to do long term, and I’m grateful to have this opportunity at the beginning of my coaching journey.”
