After Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Arteta should try to sign another really promising Euro 2024 star - opinion

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Italy and Bologna defender Riccardo Calafirori and should try to sign another talented Euro 2024 star after.

The Gunners have been biding their time in the summer transfer window and now seem ready to shift up a gear.

Calafiori seems to be edging closer to a move to North London and Mikel Arteta should now try to sign a talented midfielder who could be available.

Arsenal should try to sign Kristjan Asllani

Arsenal may look to bolster their midfield ranks this summer and one player who should be top of their list is Albania and Inter Milan midfielder Kristjan Asllani.

The 2002-born midfielder impressed many at Euro 2024 despite exiting in the group stage and will certainly have caught the eye of a few Premier League sides.

Aston Villa had been linked with him before the tournament has started and could revisit a deal considering he’s thought to be available for £21m.

That’d be a bargain for a player of his calibre and Arsenal should be all over that as they look to add squad depth to compete with Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Kristjan Asllani statistics

Asllani’s FBref statistics make for very impressive reading and only amplify why he’d be perfect for Mikel Arteta.

The Inter man ranks in the top 13 per cent for pass completion, averaging an 89.2 per cent pass accuracy per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe.

Further, he sits in the top 17 per cent for assists, amplifying his playmaking abilities from the base of midfield.

If Arsenal do land his signature this summer, it’d be a shrewd acquisition and one that’d allow Declan Rice to push into the eight role.
