Report: Arsenal have just turned down the chance to sign £73m 'superstar' from Man United

Arsenal will be gunning for the Premier League title this season but they will not be relying on the help of one player offered to them from Manchester United.

Season by season, Mikel Arteta has been building himself a squad to compete with Manchester City at the top end of the Premier League table.

Arsenal will have been optimistic of finally trumping Pep Guardiola‘s side last season but fell just short with only two points separating the two sides at the end of the season.

No new faces have come through the doors at the Emirates just yet as the new campaign looms with pre-season set to get underway.

It has now been suggested Arsenal’s transfer drought was offered its first signing of the summer but the Gunners have turned down the opportunity.

Arsenal offered £73m player from Manchester United

Arsenal’s summer window is yet to get up and running despite the Gunners being one of the sides not needing to worry about the PSR deadline last month.

The north London side have spent considerably over recent windows with the likes of Declan Rice being added to the squad.

With Edu Gaspar at the helm, Arsenal’s recent recruitment has produced a lot more success stories than it has in recent years.

However, Arsenal’s sporting director has rejected the opportunity to sign an attacking player from one of their Premier League rivals.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Gunners have turned down the chance to sign Jadon Sancho this summer.

The report claims Sancho has already been placed on the transfer market by Erik ten Hag with multiple sides having been offered the winger.

Arsenal are not the only side to have turned down the chance to sign Sancho with both Chelsea and Manchester City said to be in the same boat.

Jadon Sancho showed what he can do at Borussia Dortmund

After being exiled from United’s side, Sancho returned to Borussia Dortmund for the second half of last season having left them back in 2021 for £73m.

And he certainly showed his worth as he helped guide Dortmund to the Champions League final as he returned three goals and three assists in his short stint back in Germany.

This is after all a player who Jamie Carragher hailed as a potential world beater after he made the move back to England.

“I think he could be a superstar, I really do,” Carragher told Sky Sports back in 2021.

“You look at his numbers in German football. Gary [Neville] has mentioned that they need this player on the right side, at times I think he is as good on the left if you look at his stats.”
