Arteta nearing first summer signing after 'agreement in principle' as assistant coach pushing for £21m target

Deal ‘agreed in principle’ for Bologna’s Ricardo Calafiori to join

The Italian has become one of the most talked about players this summer after a string of solid Euro 2024 performances saw his value skyrocket.

His progressive nature on the ball and defensive nous have led to many clubs around Europe expressing interest and some Arsenal fans have even compared him to Ben White.

Arteta is now looking to bring in the defender due to his versatility to play centrally and it is being reported by journalist Nicolo Schira that Arsenal have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with Riccardo Calafiori.

The deal is said for the five-cap international is seemingly willing to join on a five-year deal worth £3 million a year, but the clubs are yet to agree a fee.

The deal could escalate quickly following Italy’s exit and it is being rumoured that it could be Jakub Kiwior that makes way for Calafiori with the likes of Zinchenko, Timber and Tomiyasu all options on the left-side of defence.

Iñaki Caña pushing move for £21m Aaron Ramsdale replacement

The club are actively in the market for another goalkeeper after both Matt Turner and Arthur Okonkwo left over the last year with Aaron Ramsdale’s future also looking away from the Emirates.

Arsenal have been linked with Espanyol goalkeeping prospect Joan Garcia, and it now appears that one of Mikel Arteta’s backroom staff is driving this interest.

Spanish outlet Relevo has revealed that Arsenal’s interest in Garcia is being driven by Arsenal goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana after the pair have a relationship from their time in Catalonia.

“Arsenal goalkeeper coach Inaki Cana is a big fan of Joan and firmly believes in his quality as an elite goalkeeper. Cana knows him very closely because of his experience as a goalkeeper coach in Catalonia,” the report said.

The 6′ 3″ Spaniard is believed to have a release clause of £21million, but it remains to be seen if Espanyol are open to a deal below that with Liverpool and Spurs circling.

It will be an interesting one to follow given Cana’s track record or recommending goalkeepers in Runar Alex Runarsson and David Raya.

Xavi Simons sends final message to Mikel Arteta over potential transfer

The Gunners are hoping to add more fire power in attack this summer. Xavi Simons has been the name on everyone’s lips after impressing on a loan spell with RB Leipzig.

With reports suggesting that Simons is intent on leaving PSG this summer, the likes of Arsenal have been keen to put their hat in the ring for his signature, with the Premier League an ideal landing spot for the 21-year-old superstar.

However, the latest update is not a positive one from an Arsenal perspective. TBR Football claim that Simons’ team have alerted Premier League teams that the PSG man won’t be moving to England this summer, all-but ending Arsenal’s hopes of signing the versatile playmaker this transfer window.

It now looks likely that he will join Bayern Munich after reports from Germany claim they have agreed terms.
