Serie A club meet ‘with agents’ of £8.5m Arsenal flop that Arteta will be desperate to sell

One Italian outfit have now made contact with one Arsenal outcast who has no place in Mikel Arteta’s plans for the club.

There are a number of Arsenal players who need to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer in order to get their careers back on track elsewhere.

Aaron Ramsdale is expected to leave Arsenal this summer, having lost his starting berth to David Raya. Albert Sambi Lokonga is closing in on a switch to Sevilla, having impressed whilst on loan with Luton Town last season.

Arsenal are also open to offers for a trio of Hale End academy graduates, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, and Reiss Nelson, who have all fallen away from regular starting contention under Mikel Arteta and need to be playing regularly at this stage in their careers.

The same can also be said of Nuno Tavares, who is something of a forgotten man in North London.

Lazio show interest in unwanted Arsenal ace Nuno Tavares

Arsenal committed £8.5 million to prise Tavares away from Benfica in the summer of 2021. In his first season at the Emirates Stadium, the Portuguese left-back featured fairly regularly for the Gunners.

However, his performances were inconsistent, and he quickly fell out of favour with Arteta. A stint on loan with Marseille was followed by a temporary switch to Nottingham Forest last season. The 24-year-old failed to make a positive impression at the City Ground, though, and is now in need of a completely fresh start.

Lazio could now be set to offer Tavares an opportunity to get his career back on track. As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, the Italian side are keen to secure the defender’s services and have held a meeting “with the agents” of the player in order to sound out the potential of striking a deal.

Should Lazio come to Arsenal with a formal offer, it has to be imagined that the Gunners will be keen to accept, even if it means making a significant loss on their initial investment in the full-back.

Arteta will want Tavares out of the club on a permanent basis this summer, rather than another loan move, and will be ready to consign the original signing of the player to being a transfer misstep.
