Daniel Levy stepped up to make sure Tottenham Hotspur completed Archie Gray deal

Tottenham Hotspur have snapped up Archie Gray and Daniel Levy appears to have played a key role in striking the deal.

Ange Postecoglou wants new signings this summer and Tottenham Hotspur have been making moves.

Lucas Bergvall was picked out as Tottenham’s first summer signing way back in February, agreeing to join from Djurgarden just days after the January window closed.

Tottenham have also struck a deal to bring Timo Werner back to the club, agreeing another loan deal with RB Leipzig.

Spurs supporters have known about those deals for a while now but Tottenham have struck a fresh transfer this week.

Leeds United wonderkid Archie Gray has arrived, penning a six-year deal in North London.

The 18-year-old arrives in a £40million deal though Joe Rodon has moved the other way, joining Leeds United for £10million.

Daniel Levy key to Archie Gray deal

Gray has been courted by a host of Premier League clubs and actually looked to be heading towards Brentford last weekend.

Tottenham are able to swoop in and hijack the deal though, bringing Gray to the north of the capital.

So just how did Spurs manage to sneak in and secure Gray’s signature?

Well, The Athletic claim that Johan Lange was a key factor in the move.

Tottenham’s technical director is understood to have been in ‘daily contact’ with Gray’s representatives for weeks in order to tee up a deal.

The report goes on to add that Daniel Levy then helped get the deal over the line and was ‘putting in the hours’ to make sure Gray joined Tottenham.

Spurs chairman Levy clearly felt that Gray was a signing Tottenham simply had to get done and was willing to put in the work to make it happen.

What next for Tottenham?

Tottenham need more signings this summer and Gray – who can offer competition in midfield and at right back – won’t be the end of the business.

Spurs are likely to look at defensive options this summer with a left-sided defender surely wanted.

A player who can play at left back and centre back would be ideal, offering competition for Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven.

A natural holding midfielder would be ideal, especially if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg moves on this summer.

Tottenham are also likely to bring in a new striker this summer and options out wide may be on the radar too.

Bergvall, Werner and Gray is a fine start but there is still plenty of work for Tottenham to do in the coming weeks.
