Report: Real Madrid could try to sign £50m player who has already agreed to join Arsenal

Arsenal appear to be closing in on their first signing of the summer.

Indeed, the Gunners are said to be nearing a deal to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.

The defender is said to have agreed personal terms with Arsenal, while a £50m bid has reportedly gone in from the north London club.

However, as many will know, it’s very rare for Arsenal to make a straightforward signing without any hiccups, and, as always, there appears to be another potential bump in the road with this deal.

Real Madrid could move for Riccardo Calafiori

According to AS, Real Madrid could make a move for Riccardo Calafiori.

Los Blancos’ first option at centre-back is Lille star, Leny Yoro, but with the likes of Liverpool said to be keen on the Frenchman, that deal won’t necessarily be straightforward for the European champions.

If Madrid do miss out on Yoro then it’s said that their plan B is to sign Calafiori from Bologna, pinching him from under Arsenal’s noses.

Real Madrid tough to turn down

Calafiori’s move to Arsenal appears to be quite advanced, but if any team is able to hijack this sort of move at the eleventh hour, it’s Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants are perhaps the most prestigious club in world football, and given the fact that David Alaba has been suffering with injuries, a spot could open up in the Madrid defence in that left centre-back slot.

Of course, Arsenal needn’t worry about the presence of Real Madrid if their move for Leny Yoro goes ahead as planned, but given the fact that Yoro has been linked to numerous clubs, that could be an issue.

Calafiori is clearly a wanted man, and whether he ends up at Real Madrid, Arsenal or Chelsea this summer, it sounds as though he’ll be making a move to a top club in this window.
