Report: Enzo Maresca gives the green light as Chelsea bid for 'hard-working' attacker, it's been rejected

Chelsea have reportedly just launched a sizeable bid for one of their transfer targets, but it’s been unsuccessful.

The Blues are certainly active in this summer window when it comes to incomings and outgoings at Stamford Bridge.

In terms of new recruits, Chelsea have already confirmed the signings of Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Kieran Dewsbury-Hall and Omari Kellyman.

Now, Chelsea have tried but failed with a £40m-plus transfer bid for a young centre-forward.

Chelsea bid for Samu Omorodion has been turned down

According to The Sun, Chelsea have seen their £42m offer to sign Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion rejected.

It’s going to take at least £70m for the La Liga club to sell him.

It is understood that Omorodion, 20, has been identified by Chelsea’s owners and recruitment team as a strong target with huge potential. Also, Blues head coach Enzo Maresca has welcomed the transfer move by giving the green light.

The report claims that Spanish side Atletico are in a strong position during negotiations because the young attacker still has four years left on his deal in Madrid.

Apparently, Maresca wants the club to sign another No 9 to support Nicolas Jackson next year.

Omorodion is still yet to play for Atletico because he went straight out on loan last season to Alaves after signing last summer.

He scored eight goals in 34 league appearances to impress for his loan club in the Spanish top division, but he’s still very inexperienced.

What Diego Simeone previously said about Blues target

Atletico manager Diego Simeone delivered a very positive verdict on Chelsea target Omorodion when discussing him last season.

Simeone told AS last October: “He (Omorodion) has been developing in the Alavws matches we have followed.

“He is a young lad, with strength, a lot of speed in long spaces and very good play in the area with his body. We hope he does well at Alavés, because he has a future with Atlético.

“He spent only a few days with us, but he looks humble and hard-working.”
