Fortnite: Two-Time FNCS Champs Split, Bugha Joins Mero & Deyy

A situation that not many believed to be true unfolded earlier this week in competitive Fortnite.

Two-time Fortnite Champion Series winners Malachi “ENDL8SS Reverse2k” Greiner, ENDL8SS Deyy and ENDL8SS Mero, have split. Despite just winning the Axe of Champions in Chapter 2 - Season 6, Deyy and Mero decided to explore other options.

It’s a puzzling move without question. The two controller players have already found their replacement, while Reverse2k will once again have to overcome adversity after proving everyone wrong over the last handful of seasons. It’ll most certainly be an interesting few weeks leading up to FNCS Chapter 2 - Season 7.

Mero Announces Split from Reverse2k

The season’s first Trio Cash Cup may have been the catalyst, but none of the players involved explained what unfolded behind the scenes. Reverse2k, Mero and Deyy earned just 144 points in the tournament. They finished in 352nd place overall. Mero then took to Twitter, announcing that he and Deyy are looking for a third teammate to play with this season. That put Reverse2k, a two-time FNCS winner, in a precarious position.

No one knew whether this was a joke or true, considering the illustrious history of Reverse2k, Mero and Deyy. However, the controller players soon announced Fortnite World Cup Champion Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf as their third, ending all speculation. Bugha had previously committed to Cloud9 players Avery and nosh but saw an opportunity he could not pass up on. On paper, this team should dominate. This new trio ultimately left Reverse2k in a difficult position.

Reverse2k Looking for a Trio

)

After Bugha, Mero and Deyy made it official, Reverse2k announced that he is searching for a team for FNCS Chapter 2 - Season 7. It’s a less than ideal situation, considering the major event kicks off on July 29. However, Reverse2k thrives in this underdog role and has motivation on his side to show up Mero and Deyy. Many other professionals in the scene could not believe that the split happened. Davis “XSET Ceice” McClellan called Reverse2k “one of the best players to touch this game.”

Reverse2k in the Underdog Role

It’s difficult to disagree with that sentiment. Reverse2k has proven himself multiple times throughout his lengthy career with his in-game leading ability and clutch performances. Reverse2k has some work to do though, since most players already found trios for FNCS Season 7. It’s also worth noting that Reverse2k, Mero and Deyy have split before after winning FNCS Chapter 2 - Season 4, but the three reunited not long after. Also, the former trio will sacrifice their guaranteed qualification to the FNCS Season 7 Finals.

Mero Speaks on Split with Reverse2k

)

Shortly after posting this story, Mero explained the situation on Twitter, and particularly, why he and Deyy decided to split with Reverse2k.

“its mainly just because of the inconsistent playstyle we have, relying on pop off games and dying to surge a handful of games can only work for so long. ex : the tna cup die 3 games in a row to surge just to get the right loot and a gifted height and drop a 22k win is just bail.”

Mero believes his former trio’s inconsistent playstyle resulted in the break-up. Now, he and Deyy will move forward with Fortnite’s only solo World Champion in hopes of acquiring their third Axe of Champions in four seasons.

We’ll have to see what unfolds over the next few weeks.
