The New York Yankees were missing left-handed batters. Then, in a less than 24-hour period, they acquired two. First, it was for Joey Gallo on Wednesday night/early Thursday morning. They were far from done at the point. Multiple fronts were reporting that they were in on Trevor Story, but instead, they turned around and went after Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs. Rizzo adds even more balance to the Yankees lineup and is a very formidable defender at first base as well. On the season, Rizzo has slashed .248/.346/.446 with 14 homers, 40 RBI, and has seven outs above average (OAA). His OAA leads all first basemen in the majors. Both Gallo and Rizzo have very high on-base percentages and will give big protection to the other big boppers in the Yankees lineup, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

The return for Rizzo is reportedly outfielder Kevin Alcantara and right-hand pitcher Alexander Vizcaino. The Cubs are also picking up all of Rizzo’s remaining salary. Alcantara was 12th on MLB Pipeline’s Yankees Top 30 prospects list, while Vizcaino was ninth.

Brian Cashman has taken this deadline very seriously, and he is far from done. Luke Voit is certainly getting moved next, and possibly in a deal for a starter. Jon Heyman reported that the Yankees are now out on Trevor Story. With less than 24 hours to go, buckle up.
