"What really stops me is .. would it be fair, for the child to have, you know ... a little bit of an older parent?" Melissa admitted. "Not that there's anything wrong with that, because I'm certainly a very active and you know, a goer, but it's a lot to think about."

Confessing "there's a few things" she's still "grappling with" when it comes to adoption, Melissa continued, "It's a huge responsibility and it's something that I really do want to do, but I really have to step back and say, is my life in a place where that is the best for another human being?"

The comedian is already a mom to 20-year-old son Edgar Cooper Endicott, who she shares with ex-husband John Endicott.

Melissa also expressed her regret when it came to not taking advice given to her by her late mother, Joan Rivers. “I wish I had listened to my mother, who wanted me to retrieve eggs while I was in my 30s!” the former Apprentice alum said, when asked about women feeling the pressure to have children. "Now, I’m like, f**k, ‘I should have done it,’ you know? But so be it."

"Again, I am very close to [adopting], yes," she added, "but there's a few things that still keep me up at night.”

Joan passed away at the age of 81 after complications during a routine medical procedure in 2014. Melissa filed a malpractice lawsuit against Yorkville Endoscopy, which was settled in 2016.

“The lawsuit concerning my mother’s death has been settled,” Melissa wrote on Twitter at the time. "In accepting this settlement, I am able to put the legal aspects of my mother’s death behind me and ensure that those culpable for her death have accepted responsibility for their actions quickly and without equivocation."
