Britney Spears will not face charges after her formed housekeeper accused the singer of battery.
The Ventura County District Attorney's Office told TMZ that prosecutors decided not to file any criminal charges against the 39-year-old for misdemeanor battery. The District Attorney told the publication that they did not file charges "based on insufficient evidence that a crime had occurred and the lack of injury to the housekeeper or significant damage to the phone."
The ordeal began when the "Toxic" singer's two dogs were taken to the vet in August but were not brought home. According to TMZ, she confronted the housekeeper and asked about the dogs. The housekeeper showed Spears photos on her phone of one of the dogs that had thrown up.
Spears reportedly thought that the housekeeper had sent the photos of the dog to her father, Jamie Spears. The blonde beauty allegedly slapped the phone out of the housekeeper's hand and struck her arm in the process. Insiders told the outlet that Spears denied touching the housekeeper and that she only grabbed the phone.
The "Womanizer" singer's dogs have since been returned.
"If this involved Jane Doe rather than Britney Spears it would not have been pursued or covered at all. Anyone can make an accusation but this should never have made it this far and we are glad the DA’s Office has done the right thing," Spears' attorney Mathew Rosengart said, according to TMZ.
"Sadly, it is apparent that some have learned nothing from the past, and we sincerely hope the media and others will be more respectful of Ms. Spears in the future," he added.
Rosengart described the matter as a "manufactured and overblown 'he said, she said' regarding alleged damage to a cell phone protector, with no striking and obviously no injuries," per Radar Online.
Spears called the Ventura County Sheriff's Department to file a theft report on August 10 but decided not to file when police arrived at her home. The housekeeper reportedly thought the singer's pets were sick and took them to the vet. They were believed to have been staying with a dogsitter before being returned to Spears on August 20.
The housekeeper is no longer working for Spears, TMZ reported.
