For Buffy The Vampire Slayer actor Nicholas Brendon, there have been many challenging hurdles between him and a successful career.
His manager, Theresa Fortier, spoke to The Daily Mail, about how the 50-year-old actor has "paralysis in his genitals" as well as his legs. Brendon has lost his ability to walk due to "deep-seated medical problems and immense pain," and is not able to promote his new Amazon Prime film Wanton Want.
The California native is battling Cauda equina syndrome. The condition occurs when the nerve roots in the lumbar spine are compressed, cutting off movement, feeling and often the function of the genitals, bladder and bowel.
Not only that, but the Criminal Minds actor's manager is claiming that his recent arrest and night in jail for providing false information, including giving a fake name and/or address to score prescription drugs, triggered his health issues.
"During the arrest they were not quite careful with his condition. It has aggravated the symptoms of his previous injury and the paralysis is starting to reappear. He may have burst another disc or everything fell out of alignment. So sleeping on a cement floor with other inmates was not exactly conducive to healing and it aggravated his injury and since then he has been in immense pain with numbness and paralysis," Fortier explained.
Due to this setback, Brendon will have to solely focus on his recovery. His manager continued, "Right now he is concentrating on his health. He is not doing promotion for the film. He has had difficulties with flying. Sadly his condition means he needs surgical intervention for his increasing problems. I wish he was on the mend and able to promote this movie."
"The hospital needs to bring him in for another spinal surgery to correct whatever it is that has happened," Fortier emphasized.

The director of his new movie, which hits the streaming platform on September 28, Joston Ramon Theney told the news outlet about how gifted the star is and the incredible energy that Brendon was able to bring to the role.
"He is an incredibly talented artist and delivered a complex and very nuanced performance for Wanton Want. I chose him personally because I believed in him and his ability to bring the character of Douglas Paynter to life," the director stated.
Paynter concluded his praise as he said, "The role called for him to dig deep and go to very dark places in playing a deeply flawed writer whose insecurities and imagination take him on a perilous journey of self re-discovery. And his performance is simply magic. I think we all had to raise our game to level up."
