Members of the royal family paid tribute to the many victims and their families on the 20th anniversary of the tragic terror attacks that shook the world in 2001.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's website Archewell.com now reads, "In memoriam. September 11, 2001" along with a list of the victims who lost their lives, while Queen Elizabeth II honored the somber day by having "The Star Spangled Banner" play during the Changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle on Saturday, September 11.
The 95-year-old royal released a statement saying, "As we mark the 20th anniversary of the terrible attacks on 11th September 2001, my thoughts and prayers — and those of my family and the entire nation — remain with the victims, survivors and families affected, as well as the first responders and rescue workers called to duty."
Her Majesty's words continued, "It reminds me that as we honour those from many nations, faiths and backgrounds who lost their lives, we also pay tribute to the resilience and determination of the communities who joined together to rebuild."
This is two decades after the first time the Queen had the anthem play on September 13, 2001 following the horrific terror strikes, whose victims included 67 British citizens.
Presided over byPrince Andrew, the solemn 2001 ceremony had over 3,000 people in attendance — a number that seems to unintentionally echo the 2,996 casualties associated with the September 11 attacks — many reportedly holding U.S. flags, or holding their hands over their hearts as the American national anthem played.
This comes shortly after OK! reported it was confirmed the Duke of York was served with legal papers on Friday, August 27 regarding accuser Virginia Giuffre's sexual assault claims. The papers were said to be left with a police officer at Windsor's Royal Lodge after multiple attempts to deliver them.
"Andrew was going stir-crazy inside Royal Lodge for the past few weeks," a source revealed to Mirror. "He wasn’t going horse riding and couldn’t step outside because of attempts to serve him with the legal papers."
The Prince has denied all of Giuffre's claims, and has not yet commented further on the matter.
