The 2022 Ford Maverick is an exciting new product that brings a sense of chic utilitarianism back into the pickup truck space, with the tiny truck offering a FWD hybrid powertrain as standard. Should customers want a bit more gusto, the 2.0L EcoBoost is the available alternative. And at the moment, it’s the easier pickup truck to get. With that said, the Maverick EcoBoost EPA fuel economy estimates are in, and they’re pretty, pretty alright.
EPA numbers are otherwise not yet available for the 2.5L Hybrid engine standard on all Maverick trims that produces 162 horsepower with 152 lb-ft of torque.
As you can see from the FuelEconomy.Gov comparison chart, the 2022 Ford Maverick EcoBoost with FWD carries a combined fuel economy estimate of 26 MPG, with a 30 MPG highway rating. Adding AWD reduces combined fuel economy estimates by just 1 MPG. And – the Maverick EcoBoost comes in slightly better than the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz, while the 2.5L turbo in the Hyundai offers a bit more horsepower than the smaller Ford engine.
Different Ford Maverick Fuel Economy Numbers
Thanks to the Maverick Truck Club forum, we can see that while dealerships have been getting their hands on the Maverick, people have been reporting numbers over 30 MPG and reaching upwards of 34 MPG for the 2.0L EcoBoost, which is nearly a significant increase. A photo also emerged showing the average MPG of the Hybrid, averaging a pinch higher at only 37.4 MPG. Again, the EPA hasn’t officially announced 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid fuel economy at the time of this writing.
Ford did previously report that they have over 100,000 reservations for the Maverick, and at its starting price point of $20,000, that’s not surprising. The 2022 Ford Maverick can also tow 4,000 pounds with the 4K Tow Package, and otherwise has been durability tested through all of the Built Ford Tough protocols that its larger family members undergo.
