2022 FORD EXPEDITION TIMBERLINE: LIVE PHOTOS FROM MOTOR BELLA

MC&T was in attendance at the first-ever Motor Bella festival: an outdoor auto show happening at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan. In typical misfortune, it’s raining all week up here, and being that it’s the start of autumn, it’s far from feeling tropical. Nevertheless, the show must go on, and the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline is on display all week, rain or shine.

The current Ford Expedition has been on the market for a few years now, and has recently brushed up against some stiff competition from both General Motors and Stellantis. At GM, you have the newer Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. Then at Stellantis, you have the all-new Jeep Wagoneer. To rattle Ford’s cage even more, the Tahoe, Yukon and Wagoneer all offer adventure-ready packages compared to the Expedition. But that has all changed with the introduction of the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline, which takes aim at the Jeep Wagoneer, as well as the Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 and GMC Yukon AT4.

The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline takes ground clearance superiority over its targets – a must for any SUV claiming to be off-road oriented. With its 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler AT tires, the Expedition Timerbline provides 10.6 inches of ground clearance, versus 10 inches on the Jeep Wagoneer and Chevrolet Tahoe Z71. Indeed, both are very close, but the Timberline also incorporates underbody protection from the mighty 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor, should one run out of said ground clearance.

The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline also comes on top of its rivals with the most powerful engine in its class, with its high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 producing 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission with a two-speed transfer case.

The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline also borrows Trail Turn Assist from the 2021 Ford Bronco. This technology that can tighten the turning radius when navigating this body-on-frame three-row SUV through trails that tend to be built around much smaller vehicles.

Other technology upgrades include standard SYNC 4 with a 12-inch center screen or an optional SYNC 4A system with a high-def 15.5 inch tablet style display. The standard 12-inch center screen with information on-demand panel allows customers to split the screen and control multiple functions simultaneously, including navigation, music and other features, such as towing information. The 15.5-inch portrait-oriented display includes adaptive dash card technology that uses the touch screen for interactive individual digital cards, instead of traditional menus, to organize and optimize the experience. Audio is provided via a Bang & Olufsen Unleashed Sound System featuring a class-leading 22 Speakers, including a Subwoofer and 360-degree surround sound.

The 2022 Ford Expedition also introduces OTA updates for the nameplate, branded as Ford Power-Up.

The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline and the rest of the lineup is assembled at Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and will go on sale in the first quarter of 2022.
