If you placed an order on a Front Wheel Drive 2022 Ford Maverick with the 4,000-pound towing package, you’re in for a complimentary upgrade, as Ford has just removed the combination. According to the Maverick Truck Club forum, Ford will cover the total cost of the AWD option ($2,220) for customers affected by the change. Because maxing out the towing capabilities on a FWD truck is probably not the best thing for the truck’s longevity. Those poor front half-shafts.
Front-Wheel-Drive Ford Maverick Rated To Tow 2,000 Pounds
The change in orders is for the FWD Maverick 2.0L EcoBoost model, which features 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-Wheel Drive is still not available for the Hybrid. If you wish to have FWD, then you will only get the base 2,000-pound towing capacity. Alternatively, you can cancel your order if the configuration isn’t what you wanted at all. It’s important to note that the free upgrade to AWD is only available for orders with the FWD & 4K towing combination.
The fuel economy with the AWD upgrade only drops by 1 compared to the FWD option, but with people reporting that they’ve been getting upwards of 34 MPG for the 2.0L EcoBoost, we doubt anyone will notice the difference.
Ford Covering AWD Upgrade
Ford previously reported having over 100,000 reservations for the Maverick. With only 500 out of that chunky number eligible for the AWD upgrade, it’s no surprise that Ford is offering to pay for the upgrade. However, it’s hard to see how any customers would have been happy with having to pay an extra $2,200 for a configuration they didn’t initially order. Luckily, the upgrade is coming at no cost to the customers, further proving how the Maverick is the most affordable new truck currently on the market.
