DODGE DURANGO HELLCAT, RAM TRX STOLEN BY CAR THIEVES

A Dodge dealership in Highland Charter Township Michigan was the recent victim of grand theft auto, located about an hour northwest of Detroit. Suspects drove off the lot with over $300,000 worth of vehicles: A Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, a Durango GT, a Charger SRT Hellcat, and a Ram 1500 TRX, as well as roughly $6,000 in cash.

According to The Detroit News, investigators say two of the four total vehicles taken were driven right off the showroom floor. Investigators say the suspects tampered with the dealership doors to get in, rummaged through an office collecting money, and opened a key cabinet housing keys to the cars they drove off with, two of which they drove through glass windows much like the 1992 Jeep Grand Cherokee introduction.

The Aftermath

The highly coveted Dodge Durango Hellcat was the only vehicle to receive any kind of damage as it was driven into a brick wall while trying to evade Oakland County Sheriff’s auto theft unit in Birmingham, according to The Detroit News. The Ram TRX, Durango GT and Dodge Charger Hellcat were later found in both Detroit and Livonia. Four suspects were apprehended by the authorities.

It’s one of the rarer muscle SUV’s on the market, if not the most rare. The 710-horsepower suv sold out within three months of its introduction despite the hefty $82,490 price tag. The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat has an advertised 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds and an NHRA rated quarter mile time of 11.5 seconds, just .1 seconds slower than the shorter Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Originally Dodge was going to make 2,000 units this year but decided to up that to fulfill orders in the system. Dodge will have produced roughly 3,000 units this year, and that’s it. That makes the Druango Hellcat rarer than even the mighty Dodge Demon, by 300 less units.
