The remains found near Brian Laundrie's personal belongings in the Carlton Reserve are reportedly bones.
News Nation Now's Brian Entin reported, via Twitter, on Thursday, October 21: "We have learned the remains found in the Carlton Reserve were 'skeletal remains.' 'Bones.'"
Entin's update on the hunt for Brian in the 24,565-acre reserve comes one day after the reporter confirmed items belonging to Gabby Petito's fiancé were found off a trail at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, which is connected to the Carlton Reserve.
Brian's parents Chris and Roberta went to the park on Wednesday, October 20, to search for their missing son, as they only now revealed Brian frequented that trail.
The FBI and NPPD were informed Tuesday night that his parents intended to search the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, and met Chris and Roberta at the location the following morning.
Around the same time Brian's dad found a dry bag belonging to his son on Wednesday, authorities reportedly found the most wanted man in America's backpack, along with unidentified human remains.
OK! reported only a “a small part” of a body was found, with the FBI revealing in a press conference that the remains found in the reserve were underwater due to heavy rain and flooding.
The Laundries' attorney addressed the findings Wednesday night, acknowledging: "the probability is strong that it is Brian’s remains."
If the remains happen to belong to Brian, this would bring an end to Gabby's highly-publicized case — but it wouldn't be the result those close to the influencer were looking for.
Friends of the vlogger are hoping the 23-year-old is still alive, so he could provide answers regarding his alleged involvement in Gabby's tragic death. Gabby's remains were found mid-September, and her death was ruled a homicide shortly after. A coroner recently confirmed she died by manual strangulation, most likely three to four weeks before her body was found.
“If Brian is dead, the problem is that no one will ever really know what happened or why it happened,” one of the 22-year-old's pals explained. “We’ll never have answers. That’s why I want him to be alive, because we won’t get answers otherwise. It’ll be a double tragedy for him to be dead."
Gabby was first reported missing on September 11, ten days after Brian returned home alone from the couple's cross-country road trip in his fiancée's van. Two weeks later, Brian went hiking in the Carlton Reserve and never returned home.
Chris and Roberta reported the fugitive — who is a person of interest in Gabby's homicide — missing days after they went to the reserve to search for Brian on Monday, September 13. Brian's parents reportedly only found their son's abandoned car, which they drove home.
