GMC SIERRA SALES RECORD EXPECTED AS DEMAND CAN'T KEEP UP

Low inventory is a common occurrence across the vehicle marketplace as of late, with expectations for things to start to return to relatively more normalcy within the coming year. Despite this, the GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD sales are on track to break records this year.

A GMC Sierra Sales Record? In A Microchip Shortage?

According to The Detroit Free Press Buick-GMC Global Vice President Duncan Aldred foresees an annual sales record for the GMC Sierra family, due to the brand prioritizing them in the global microchip crisis over smaller, less profitable vehicles.

“When we get chips, we generally put them in Sierra and Yukons,” said Aldred, in the report.

In the third quarter of 2020, GMC Sierra sales were down 22% to 52,774 units, compared to the same time in 2019. However, for the past nine months leading up to September of 2021, sales were up nearly 10%, with 191,186 vehicles sold year-to-date. In addition, the new GMC Yukon has also seen an increase in sales, from 17,428 last year to 59,743 this year, which is a 55% gain.

Apparently, a chip shortage is better than a pandemic. At least for GMC.
