When you think of the Chevrolet Suburban you think of mature trees lining the streets of an established neighborhood, lakefront property, the DEA, and Uber Black Service. But none of those things are objectively fun, so, in an effort to change that mood board, Chevy brought the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban Street Concept to the 2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Perhaps that grille will make production?
According to the Chevrolet Suburban Street Concept’s official literature, the most advanced Suburban ever now brings more expressive street style with it, which should help it blend in better while out for a night on the Las Vegas Strip. Except it’s stuck at the 2021 SEMA Show floor. Central hall, to be exact.
2021 SEMA Show Chevrolet Suburban Street Concept: The Details
The concept started life as a production 2022 Chevy Suburban High Country. The lowered stance of the Street Concept comes courtesy of four-corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension. The front end features a gloss-black painted grille from the Chevrolet Accessories catalog. The new grille ditches the iconic bowtie branding in favor of CHEVROLET block letters. We’ve seen this before on various Chevrolet Colorado trim levels, so it’s a technique that Chevy is definitely willing to apply to a production vehicle. Especially one as lucrative as the Suburban.
Other Chevrolet Accessories include black mirror caps and black badging on the doors, quarter panels, and rear hatch. Easily the best part of the build is the gorgeous set of gargantuan 24-inch custom-cut, painted, and polished billet aluminum wheels that replace the High Country’s standard 22-inch kit.
Now filling the extra space afforded by the larger wheels is a Chevrolet Performance Brembo brake upgrade kit, which adds massive six-piston aluminum front calipers with a 22% larger rotor. The stopping power gives a better feel overall, but to really drop stopping distance, one needs a superior tire. Unfortunately, the feds frown upon accessory tire packages from OEMs, so you’ll have to upgrade them yourself off the books.
The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban Street Concept takes its motivation from the same ever so lovely 6.2L L87 small-block V8, which populates the 2022 Suburban High Country’s engine bay. It churns out an effortless 420-hp and 460 lb-ft of torque and remains backed by GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
It’s the mild projects like these that often give us a glimpse of future trim or accessory packages being evaluated by the product managers. Even so, aside from the 24-inch wheels and the block letter grille, it’s would be possible to outfit your very own 2022 Suburban in a similar way.
