The jig is up! The woman claiming to be one of Brian Laundrie’s ex-girlfriends has been exposed as an imposter.
The unnamed woman — who has been using the name Gabriella Darling on social media — recently pretended that she had previously dated the now-deceased 23-year-old who has been the focal point of the Gabby Petito murder case.
Earlier this week, reports started circulating alleging that the woman was making the whole story up after the Laundrie family claimed they had no idea who she was.
Now, according to a report from The Sun, the woman seemingly admitted that she was lying the whole time after stating that she is “not involved with anything that has to do with Brian or Gabby.”
The outlet also reported that the woman was visited by the FBI, who declined to comment on the matter.
Darling previously expressed her devastation at the news of Brian’s death, claiming that she was heartbroken after his remains were discovered in the Carlton Reserve in Florida last month.
“Feels like a part of my heart has been ripped out, and no matter what, no one will be able to fill it,” Darling wrote at the time. “The only thing to do now is to hold those memories very close to my heart,” and try to “make something positive out of this, somehow.”
Her sentiment caused eyebrows to raise after Darling posted about Brian back in September, calling him “narcissistic” and “controlling.”
One Instagram user, @exposinganddebunking, thought that Darling’s comments seemed strange and decided to do some “internet sleuthing” into her story, only to figure out that “Gabriella Darling” was not her true identity.
“I didn’t think it was fair that she seemed to be gaining from this tragedy and I wanted a stop to be put to it,” the anonymous user behind @exposinganddebunking told The Sun.
“As someone who has suffered domestic violence myself before, I found it upsetting that she was essentially ‘pretending’ to be a survivor just to get clout,” they continued.
As OK! previously reported, Brian’s sister Cassie was “furious” after stories about Darling started making headlines.
“It was messed up, and it made Cassie so mad,” a woman named April Valenzuela stated earlier this week.
Valenzuela — who has a mutual friend with the Laundrie family — claimed to have had a phone call with Darling on Tuesday, October 26, after she reached out to help the woman cope.
While Valenzuela believed the woman at first, she ended up confronting Darling after hearing that the Laundrie family had never actually met her.
“She never called me,” Valenzuela said. “She messaged me and told me that her family’s attorney told her not to talk to anyone.”
At the time of Darling’s alleged phony post about her fake relationship with Brian, she claimed that he “was not a monster” despite how the media has been painting him out to be.
Brian, wholikely committed suicide, according to the North Port Police, was a person of interest in the murder of his fiancée.
Petito, 22, was found dead weeks after Brian returned home from the couple’s cross-country road trip without her. It was later revealed that Petito was strangled to death, for which an investigation is still being conducted.
