Earlier this week, the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor was teased pretty much in the flesh, save for some camo tape on the modular body panels that left little to the imagination. But if you’re one for peep shows, Ford seems ready to oblige. Once again uploaded by The Bronco Nation like the first teaser, we hear the Bronco Raptor engine exhaust note at full throttle, for the first time, in the video below. Sorry, it’s not a V8. But do you like it anyway?
The exhaust note of the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor makes us want to rule out the 450 hp 3.5L EcoBoost high-output V6 that we currently see in the Ford F-150 Raptor. It just doesn’t sound as angry. Based on sound alone, we’re placing bets that the Bronco Raptor will indeed cradle the 400 3.0L EcoBoost V6 found in the Ford Explorer ST, which currently isn’t offered in any other vehicle. It’s likely that Ford Performance took a few liberties and cleared the throat of this midsized performance engine, allowing for more airflow through the exhaust, and perhaps more power than what we currently see from the Ford Explorer ST.
2022 Ford Bronco Raptor: Other Details
The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor will ride on 37-inch tires, based on spy photos. They’re also the BFGoodrich KO2, a favorite among street-legal off-road trucks and SUVs. Such girthy meats require the new Raptor to adopt almost Jeep-like wheel arches, which may explain the cab lights mounted just above the “FORD” lettering in the grille.
The 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor will expand the lineup of the 4×4 SUV upwards. Joining it for the 2022 model year will be the upcoming Bronco Everglades, along with the new option to get a manual transmission on the coveted Sasquatch Package. Pricing for the Bronco Raptor is not yet known, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it broke the $60,000 barrier. For the 2023 model year, there’s the $200,000+ Bronco DR race truck (which has a V8!), as well as the 2023 Bronco Heritage Edition.
