Ghislaine Maxwell is speaking out from the confines of her prison cell, and she is unhappy with the treatment she calls "inhumane."
Only days before the jury selection process begins for her highly anticipated sex trafficking trial that will put Jeffrey Epstein's associate under the microscope for her alleged assistance in the "enticement and procuring of minors", Maxwell is bringing her current living conditions into the spotlight.
The 59-year-old socialite has spent the last 16 months in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center sine her arrest in July, 2020, with her requests for release on bail repeatedly denied.
Not only is Epstein's French-born former girlfriend kept in "solitary confinement" due to the high profile case, but she claims the rats and the "creepy guards" make her life difficult.
"I used to go to the loo with an open sewer drain and a friendly rat would regularly visit," Maxwell exclusively told the Mail on Sunday.
"I told the guards, but nothing was done until the rat popped out and charged a guard who screamed in terror," she continued. "Finally, the sewer drain was covered."
But it wasn't only her bathroom time she claims has been interrupted, but her showers as well. "I used to take a shower every day but I've stopped because of the creepy guards who stand close and stare at me the whole time," the heiress added.
This comes shortly before her upcoming 6-week trial which is set to start on November 29.
Throughout the undoubtedly arduous court proceedings, Maxwell will have to face allegations regarding her association with convicted sex offender Epstein, as well as her willing assistance in sex trafficking and abuse of minors.
Maxwell's indictment read: "From at least in or about 1994, up to and including at least in or about 1997, Maxwell assisted, facilitated, and contributed to Jeffrey Epstein's abuse of minor girls by, among other things, helping Epstein to recruit, groom, and ultimately abuse victims known to Maxwell and Epstein to be under the age of 18. The victims were as young as 14 years old when they were groomed and abused by Maxwell and Epstein, both of whom knew that certain victims were in fact under the age of 18."
Additional charges were later added, and more details began to emerge regarding her nefarious role in allegedly trafficking a 14-year-old girl.
"Maxwell groomed the girl to engage in sex acts with Epstein through multiple ways," another statement read. "Including by giving her lingerie and hundreds of dollars in cash and by encouraging the girl to recruit other young females to provide 'sexualized massages' to Epstein."
If convicted, the 59-year-old will face up to 80 years in prison.
