Militant killed in Hyderpora gunfight

An unidentified militant was killed in a gunfight with joint team of police and security forces in Hyderpora area of Srinagar on Monday, police said.

“01 unidentified (militant) killed. Operation going on. Further details shall follow,” police said in a tweet. This came barely within minutes after announcing the start of the gunfight in the area.

“Encounter has started at Hyderpora Srinagar. Police & Security Forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” police had said in a tweet. Srinagar city has witnessed an uptick in gunfights. On Sunday, Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Superintendent of Police, North, was wounded in an shootout with militants in Srinagar. The policeman was injured in a gunfire with militants at Jamalata Nawa kadal area of central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Sunday. Official sources said that the militants attacked a police party in the area, leaving a policeman injured. According to Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh, the cop was injured during a raid on a suspected hide. Some exchange of fire occurred in which one cop suffered injury, he said. (GNS)
